Transition to ExpressionEngine

website thumbnail After installing EE Core on my 1&1 Internet web host and hacking my way past some of the issues that came up (URL segments not working, PHP in CGI mode, etc.) I finally decided to just move to a new host. When I had issues with the MagPie RSS reader plug-in not working at all on my 1&1 installation, I bit the bullet and signed up at EngineHosting.

All of my ExpressionEngine sites will be hosted at EngineHosting. This recent experience with misconfigurations and other problems and issues reinforced the decision. The staff at EngineHosting are all extremely fast and knowledgeable… and speak directly with EngineHosting developers to resolve issues proactively. With any other host, you’re on your own, often with no resolution as major things like PHP as CGI versus a web server extension aren’t changes most web hosts can make on a per-client basis.

I finally completed the registration late on Friday afternoon. I received a billing notice on Saturday morning and by Saturday early afternoon I had received an email indicating that the site was ready for use. I was able to complete the installation right from my BlackBerry 8830’s web browser, using the SQL server information in the site configuration status email. I’ve spent a bit this morning setting up the blog functionality and applying styling and markup from my templates.

I recommend that anyone planning on going with ExpressionEngine should go directly to EngineHosting for their hosting.

I believe they’ve been around for at least a few year. For me, they’re _the_ host to go with for ExpressionEngine and CodeIgniter sites as they work closely with the ExpressionEngine dev team.
